About: Doctor Richard I. Ries is a clinical psychologist, trauma and grief psychotherapy specialist, hospice therapist and consultant to hospital systems in independent practice. His downtown Honolulu office welcomes children, teens, couples, families, adults, older adults and those diagnosed with terminal illness, often with an emotionally-focused and existential lens. Bereavement, Trauma, Resiliency, and palliative care are among his training emphases. In the past, Dr. Ries was Clinic Manager for the child and adolescent clinic at the University of Hawaii’s center for Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Clinical Liaison Team member at The Queen's Medical Center (providing bedside psychotherapy on medical floors), Deputy Chief of Psychology Research at Tripler Army Medical Center (designing and conducting applied research on PTSD and other warfighter concerns) and the Resiliency Subject Matter Expert for the Pacific Regional Medical Command covering South Korea, Japan and Greater Hawai’i with emphasis on treating and preventing compassion fatigue. He was active in the aftermath of the Fukushima earthquake/tsunami/nuclear spill event developing neighbor-to-neighbor resiliency and rebuilding efforts. Dr. Ries presently serves as the Chairman of the Board for the Hawai'i State Council on Mental Health, an advisory panel appointed by the governor, and confirmed by the Senate. He serves as the Behavioral Health Subject Matter Expert on the City and County of Honolulu’s COVID-19 Public Health and Medical Advisory Group, presided by the Mayor. He is also on the Child and Adolescent Committee for the Hawai'i Psychological Association. He hosts a weekly, public broadcast, live, call-in radio hour on dream analysis.
